Has this password leaked?
Check a password against a public list of leaked ones. It runs in your browser.
Try an old password, not one you use today. A retired one or a made-up one works fine. The check is built so the password stays on your device, but an old password is the better habit.
Only the first five characters of a scrambled copy of the password leave your browser. The full password itself and the rest of the scrambled copy never do.
How to read your results GoodWorth a lookProblemCouldn’t tell
- Good
- This check found what it was looking for.
- Worth a look
- Something is missing, unclear or could be better. A good question to ask whoever looks after it.
- Problem
- A specific gap the check saw, or one you told us about. Worth acting on soon.
- Couldn’t tell
- The check could not see enough to say. That is not good or bad news.
What a result does and doesn’t mean
- Found means that exact password has shown up in leaked data, and attackers try those first. If you still use it anywhere, replace it.
- Not found means it was not on this list. It does not prove the password is strong, and it says nothing about your accounts.
- A match does not mean anyone broke into your accounts, and it does not say where the password came from.
- The list is Pwned Passwords from Have I Been Pwned. Like any website, it can see your network address when you check. We never see the password.
